San Severo

This area is called the peach and artichoke capital and because they gave us such an awful breakfast, croissants with chocolate or custard in, we stopped at the first fruit shop and got a bag of fresh peaches for €1.50
Ceregnola ,15kms away was the first coffee stop. I'm enjoying the little expresso's now and they sure do give you a kick in the pants.
Id hate to drive in these towns with all the one way systems. It's so simple on a bike , look for the church steeple and aim straight at it. One way streets don't apply to bikes.
On our way to Foggia ,we followed farm roads beside the motorway. Brilliant system but occasionally swapped sides and sometimes ran out completely. Got lost at one point and had to retrace our tracks. It must confuse a lot of people because they've put pointsmen (women) at strategic spots
When we passed her again I asked
 "Which way to Foggia ?"
 " 40 euros " she replied
  "FOGGIA" ( stupid woman)
  " Hokay, 30 euros !"
She must have thought we needed a taxi.
Just before Foggia we passed the cemetery . It looked like an old walled city and so we went in. Fascinating! Well laid out streets with houses ,except the houses were the burying place for members of that family, going back 100's of years. Next thing the lunch siren went off . Gave us a hell of a fright ! I don't know what they expected to happen.
This land through here is the food bowl of Italy. Mile upon mile of crops and vineyards. Nothing's mown, just rotary hoed. I liked the little asaragus picking machines that we saw occasionally
Today we saw our first biking tourers.4 of them and all Germans
He was finding this area boring but it's amazing the difference it makes when the winds behind you. I'm enjoying it but getting a tad sunburnt.
This vineyard was beside a level crossing and as we waited for the train to pass we went in to partake. Check out the petrol type bowsers. Ended up buying a nice sparkling wine for €1.50
San Severo (85 kms )was the goal today but what a nightmare finding digs. Several B&B's but all shut until summer. Finally this nice off duty policeman took us under his wing and found us a hotel
Thanks Rico
