Lesina by the sea

"I've got a sore bum!  " There I've said it
Anyway we've decided on a short day so we're heading for the Coast just 25kms away. Chieuti was the goal but we took a wrong turn some where and ended up in Lesina.
As we approached  Apricona we came across factories with stacks of marble and huge band saws slicing them up. This one even had a finished statue out front
What a place ! The rubbish bins, drinking fountains, seats ,street lamp bases, all marble.
Even the paving stones
The downside was the hills they came from were between us and the sea. It gave us an up close look at some awesome marble quarries though.
To dispose of the substandard rock they piled them up like pyramids
In my younger days this was how we spent our summers. Hay making ! It felt good to be able to hop on the bike and ride away
We only intended stopping in Lesina for a coffee and straighten my back wheel (broken spoke )but liked it so much we booked in to a B&B.
Guiseppe is 15 and spoke good English
This is the best accomodation yet ( €60) and we had a rooftop balcony that looked out both ways
At the end of the jetty is the foundations of a Roman bath house. This is a lake beside the sea and eeling is a big industry here. The region here is Gargano and is a place we would like to revisit in a camper one day
