Besancan to L'Isle sur le Doubs

At 19.60 euro's, last nights camp was the dearest yet! That's cities for you though .Today Christine started off on her own as the trail was a voie verte, ( green way) for bikes only , and I took the van on to Baume-les-dames, and biked back to meet her. The Doubs cuts through deep gorges through here and there were occasional hills where the valley was too narrow and we had to climb a little.Reminded me of when I promised Paulette that there were no real hills on the way to Scotland. These bikes can't do hills so there was a bit of walking !
The churches in this department , The Doubs, are typified by the ornate tile work on the steeples and I'm proud to say my wife resisted the urge to go inside any of them.
From Dole to here ,the Doubs once powered 36 mills and 4 iron smelting plants, several are still working and I'm proud to say , I resisted the urge to visit any of THEM.
If the canal runs too close to the river, they shore up the banks with these steel walls that the digger on the barge is installing.
Our camp tonight is at L'Isle sur le Doubs .
ish only 14 eurosh, an ish a luvly plashe t' finish thish boddle a red.
