Basel ! We made it

This last leg to Basel was only 35 Km's and it ran beside the shipping canal and then the Rhein itself. Our camp is just before the city ,at Haningue still in the French part. Right next to us is a magnificent footbridge that takes you across to the German side.
On the way here we met up with a lovely Scottish couple, Ivor and Karen, who are biking the euro velo 5 route which follows the Rhein from its mouth in Holland to the source in Switzerland.
You can read their blog on..

We crossed over together in the morning to see the spot where the 3 countries meet
Incidentally, the shirts Ivor and Karen are wearing are NZ Marino called iceberg . Ivor tells me you can go a week without needing to wash them and when you do you smell a bit like a sheep! What a turn on !
Basel is great with lovely old trams, lots of bikes and not many cars in the centre. The Rhein whistles through here and the ferries are towed across by a wire and a flying fox system( look closely at the photo )
The down side of Basel ,is being in Switzerland, everything is VERY expensive . Those little coffees and nibbles, $19 NZ.
