The bridge over the Duna here is old and narrow, and you have to queue to pay a toll ( then waved through as bikes are free ) At this point my iPhone decided to call it quits so it's back to my old iPod. You'll notice the photos aren't as clear
Bulgarian border police kept us waiting for about 20 minutes as they triple checked our passports.
The goal today is Tutrakan . Busy road as we leave Ruse but the surface is smooth and there's plenty of room.
It's hard to believe the difference on this side of the river. Large modern farms , good roads ,and no RUBBISH ! Not much anyway. Still a few peasant farmers but even they look a bit more upmarket
The lady at the fruit stall wanted to show me her puppies.
" oh Puppies !!! "
Tutrakan was a large Roman fort and we went exploring the ruins
Then booked in early to the Lodkata hotel in the old fishing village
60 rev , about $48 nz , and it's just above the old fishing port. There were at one time 5000 fishermen in this town ,with 1000 boats like these . This chap was tarring his boat just as his grandfather probably did ( without the gas )
" I used to have more freeboard ?"
Bulgarian on the menu tonight . I'll let you know what I think.
