Day 26. Romania

Couldn't get out of there fast enough !
We don't like to travel after 4pm though ,and here's the main reason
These guys have been drinking all day and at 5pm they STAGGERED out to their cars and drove home.
Every few kilometres you see a monument to another accident (no wooden cross's here )
After Bella Kyrza ,to reach the Romanian border you need to go about 10kms north, uphill ! And today into a strong wind!
Hot work, it was lowest gear all the way. At the crossing village ,this restaurant was barbecuing a pig out on the footpath. Talk about selling the smell !  Yummm
We now had to turn south and head back to the river but on the Romanian side. Yay , tail wind , quiet road , and plum trees overhanging the road. Grazing  again.
Apart from about 4 cars the only other traffic we met was this and at least 5 horse and carts. It was great to be able to pass something ( that didn't smell like fish )
You'll notice there's no fences , the flocks of sheep, or goats, usually have a Shepard , or in this case , just a pyranese mountain dog. They're amazing, they never leave the job and keep an eye out for dangers to the flock. Can you see him  up the top?
The villages appear poorer than Serbia but cleaner and with lots of flower gardens on the street belonging to the house behind
We battled a strong head wind for the last 20 Kms into Maldova where we're staying. Christine ran over a snake like this one. About 500mm long ( back in Austria I ran clean over one about 1200mm long)
These 2 joined us while we were having an ice cream
Looovly hotel tonight. All the trimmings including breakfast for $32 NZ
