Day 11. Stockerau

The old fellas who owned that one weren't getting up early for anyone ,so we  didn't get on the road until 8.30.
And then it rained ! At least it was still warm so we pushed on and by 10am it had cleared so we stopped for coffee and a dry out at Spitz.
A selfie of us sheltering. "Oh damn it , let's go" said the trail boss
"  No no , please don't make me move" said the sissy in orange
This is Spitz. coffee and a dry out .  This stretch from Melk to Krem is called the Wachau and is very pretty. The trail goes through lots of little villages and terraced hills covered in vineyards. There were hundreds and hundreds of tourists off the cruise ships cycling this section. The ships would drop them off with a bike then go and wait for them further along
This part of the river narrows down and the ships struggle against the currents . If the photos look hazy it's because the camera got wet in the rain.
And then at Krems it widens out again. We changed sides here as the trail finished on the left bank. It is VERY tricky following the trail in this area . Lots of lost looking bikers but luckily the trail boss has a nose for the right trail.
Water ski clubs , lots of yacht clubs. It's always busy
And 20 Kms later down the right bank we changed sides again at the delightful town of Tullin. Beautiful bronze sculptures  along the waterfront.
Stockerau wasn't our goal, we are only 16kms short of Vienna but we saw a sign to a hotel and we were tired , 110 Kms . Silly old buggars
